The acute lower back pain - where it so painful that you can't get up out of bed or even walk, this is the worst of the back pains, or the rhy neck (torticollis) where you are "frozen" in the neck from the shoulders up you have to turn your waist to turn your head.
This technique is another of the more gently methods. For the patient, it is a passive technique where they lie down and vinyl wedges are placed under the pelvic. As you lie there resting the wedges are gently stretching the painful ligaments and muscles, and usually within 10-15 minutes the agony will have stopped or reduced markedly. These consultations are usually long visits, as we allowing the body weight to help stretch the inflamed region.
Also children love this treatment method because there is no sense of a manipulation with it. It is just as suitable for the elderly, even the very elderly 80-90 year age group.
There are 3 categories or 3 ways chiropractors make an "adjustment" to help correct a painful back.
Category I
Refers to fixation (restriction) of the Lumber sacrum region as they inter react with each other this is known as the sacro-iliac boot mechanism, this in turn effect important nerve pathways that regulate the pelvic area. If the pelvic region changes all the spinal vertabra and muscles balanced above it are effected.
Category II
This usually involves a tear, sprain or strain of the ligaments around the sacro iliac joint, usually from heavy lifting with rotation ie moving heavy pot plants, lifting lawn mowers etc and patients usually present complaining of a tearing pain in the groin. Injuries have to do with dysfunctions of the weight-bearing parts of the sacro iliac joints.
Category III
Involves the vertebral discs (prolapses and hernia's) and their blood supply. This is the most painful of all back conditions. Patients cannot stand without twisting, they usually hobbly along in acute pain. SOT has special procedures for the care of these patients. It is both effective and safe.
